Esmeralda Gomez
How long have you worked at WIC?
My name is Esmeralda Gomez, and I am a WIC Nutrition Assistant at the South Gate site. I have been in my role since July 2025.
What first drew you to this field, and how has your journey led you to WIC?
In 2021, I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from UC San Diego. I majored in Public Health with a concentration in community health sciences. My passion for health education, community mobilization, and women’s health is what has led me to step into my role as a WNA.
What is your favorite part about working for WIC?
My favorite part about working for WIC is that I learn something new every day. Since I’ve stepped into my role, I’ve gained valuable knowledge about nutrition and breastfeeding services. I’m grateful for the opportunity to deliver health education to participants and serve in a program that I once benefited from.
What is a ‘hidden talent’ or a hobby you’re passionate about outside of work that most people might not know about?
In my free time, I enjoy trying new restaurants and coffee shops, scrapbooking, and taking walks with my Great Dane, Canelo. A hobby that most people may not know about is that I love playing Animal Crossing on my Nintendo Switch.
