food Forward

Every Friday morning, the Lundquist WIC Outreach and Provider Relations team, in collaboration with other South Los Angeles Health Projects (SLAHP) personnel, actively engage in supporting the community by providing complimentary fresh fruits and vegetables at the Manchester WIC office. Partnering with the nonprofit organization Food Forward, SLAHP endeavors to assist individuals and families facing food insecurities.

SLAHP is dedicated to furnishing healthy sustenance to our neighborhoods and mitigating the scarcity of access to nutritious, fresh foods. Hence, we wholeheartedly endorse Food Forward's mission to combat hunger and diminish food wastage in Los Angeles. Through our joint efforts, we alleviate hunger by dispersing food to households grappling with food insecurity.

The Outreach and Provider Relations team of SLAHP efficiently coordinates staff to prepare, package, and distribute the wholesome produce to both WIC and non-WIC families. Our grassroots initiative has fostered an environment conducive to dietary improvement in South Los Angeles, dismantling obstacles to the availability of nutritious foods. Through this fruitful partnership, SLAHP and Food Forward are collectively nurturing a community of healthy families and tackling food insecurity prevalent in South Los Angeles.

SCLARC

The Lundquist WIC Program, a community initiative under the auspices of the South Los Angeles Health Projects (SLAHP), has entered into a partnership with the South Central Los Angeles Regional Center (SCLARC) effective May 2023. This collaboration entails the deployment of a Child Development Specialist who conducts screenings and facilitates referrals as needed at three Lundquist WIC sites: Manchester, Huntington Park, and Central WIC offices. Our alliance with SCLARC is designed to bolster care systems, leverage community resources, and advance educational opportunities for children with special needs within the South Los Angeles Community.

Lundquist WIC is committed to enhancing the well-being of the families we serve and promoting the holistic development and social-emotional welfare of all children. We align ourselves with SCLARC's mission to furnish children with the requisite support for a superior quality of life. Through our services, we empower families to advocate effectively for the developmental needs of their children.

Our Child Development Specialist has undergone specialized training provided by SCLARC to administer screenings and make referrals for eligible WIC children and their families who require additional assistance. At SLAHP, we steadfastly believe in enabling children to attain their full potential and thrive.

AltaMed

The Lundquist WIC Program, a community initiative under the auspices of the South Los Angeles Health Projects (SLAHP) offers medical residents the opportunity to learn WIC services in a public health setting.

Our extensive in-house curriculum comprises opportunities for the medical residents to focus on the core basics of the WIC program. The medical residents rotate through two WIC offices for four weeks, once a week. In addition, we coordinate the medical resident’s individualized program, ensuring each resident encounters key competencies as a part of their WIC learning experience.

Medical residents benefit from this unique collaboration by learning about WIC services from our community experts, our WIC staff. As medical residents complete their rotation and learn about WIC services, they gain participant-centered education skills that benefit them throughout their medical careers. Lundquist WIC is humbled to be part of developing medical residents in our WIC offices. We take pride in aiding their professional development and growth. We are honored that their learning, engagement and actions have a positive impact in the South Los Angeles communities.
