Sharon boasts a distinguished career spanning over two decades as a registered dietitian nutritionist. Her educational journey commenced at California State University, Long Beach, where she earned her degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, specializing in Dietetics and Food Administration, complemented by a minor in chemistry. Furthering her academic pursuits, she obtained a Master of Science in Nutritional Science with a focus on Community Nutrition.
Driven by her passion for gardening, Sharon pursued certification as a master gardener, leveraging this interest to delve into research for her thesis, which investigated fourth graders’ vegetable preferences through garden-enhanced nutrition education. Throughout her career, she has played pivotal roles in various community initiatives, including overseeing Meals on Wheels programs, collaborating with school districts to promote nutrition, cooking, gardening, and physical education, as well as counseling adults in weight management programs.
With a fervent dedication to education, Sharon continues to impart her knowledge as a part-time instructor in nutrition at the college level. Currently serving as Deputy Chief of Breastfeeding Services, she has expanded her expertise to include lactation education counseling (LEC), guiding WIC staff on the crucial aspects of breastfeeding/chestfeeding. Additionally, she oversees the WIC Child Development Specialist and spearheads Story Time initiatives within our agency.
Supported by her patient husband, Sharon balances her professional commitments with the responsibilities of homeschooling their teenager, showcasing her ability to excel both personally and professionally.
