Deputy Director, WIC Operations

Nancy Avila commenced her tenure with South Los Angeles Health Projects in 2003, assuming the role of WIC Site Supervisor at the Bell Gardens site. With her roots as a native Angeleno, Nancy possesses an acute understanding of the intricate cultural and diversity dynamics prevalent in South Central Los Angeles.

Progressing within the organization, Nancy transitioned in 2007 to the role of Senior Health Educator for the South Los Angeles Best Babies Collaborative, subsequently taking on responsibilities in Site Operations as a Trainer. By 2010, Nancy ascended to the position of WIC Area Manager, a role she adeptly fulfilled for 11 years. In this capacity, she provided oversight to multiple WIC sites while fostering collaborative efforts with various departments within South LA Health Projects.

Recognizing her exemplary contributions, Nancy was appointed Deputy Chief, WIC Operations in 2021. In her current capacity, she oversees a wide spectrum of functions including WIC Site Operations, Nutrition and Training Services, Breastfeeding Services, WIC WISE Management, Employee Development, Project Management/Local Vendor Liaison, Policy and Training, and Advocacy and Health Equity.

Nancy’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration with a minor in Sociology, complemented by a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Health Care Policy and Administration.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Nancy cherishes her roles as a wife and proud mother of a first-year college student. In her leisure time, she finds joy in traveling with her family and indulging in audio books.
